Winter Surf Hotel Wedding in Buena Vista, CO | Chantal + Brooks

Chantal and Brooks got married at The Surf Hotel and it was a warm, heartfelt day!

Chantal and Brooks' Story:

Chantal and Brooks officially met for the first time while working together at Aliso Viejo Country Club in Aliso Viejo, California. Chantal started her new job there as the Private Event & Tournament Director in August of 2017, meanwhile, Brooks was working as the Golf Shop Manager & Golf Pro. They had crossed paths about 2 years earlier when they were both at a going away party for a shared co-worker. Brooks asked his (now) Best Man, Casen, who Chantal was because Casen and Chantal worked in the same club. At that time, Chantal was not in the right place due to a recent divorce. It wasn't until a Manager's outing at Improv in Irvine, California on October 5, 2017 that Brooks actually worked up the courage to talk to Chantal. She had given him a pretty hard time that whole night. Chantal eventually asked him for a ride home and they've been together every day since then. "We both knew within about 6 weeks we were in love and we knew almost immediately that our future was together!" The couple was asked what their favorite part of the day was and they stated, "Getting to see it all come together, NOT having to source décor :) Getting to be a BRIDE!"

The Planning Process:

The couple achieved the theme of an elegant and intentional mountain chateau that was filled with unique details that complemented both of their styles. Chantal and Brooks were drawn towards a gender neutral aesthetic (as opposed to an overly feminine feeling wedding!) and chose a color scheme of hunter green and black, with hints of ivory, gold and natural textures. Their aesthetic perfectly fit the vibe of the ‘Surf Hotel in Buena Vista, CO which had a European Mountain aesthetic and had modern, deep teal walls and accents of black and gold throughout. It was truly, the perfect match for Chantal and Brooks!

I also have to admit that working with Chantal and Brooks was an absolute dream! Chantal works in the wedding industry and I had actually met Chantal at a Bridal Show the year before she got engaged. With Chantal already familiar with the industry, she had an overall idea of what she liked. Chantal was also incredibly detail oriented and a ‘Type A’ personality so, working with her was very easy and organized.

The Ceremony:

The ceremony took place in the Private Courtyard at The Surf Hotel and was truly, timeless.

Chantal and Brooks wanted the ceremony to be a very special and an intimate portion of the day. They wanted the focus to be on their love and families so, they didn’t want to go over the top with floral and décor. In order to create a very intimate vibe, we set the guest’s chairs in a half circle around Chantal and Brooks and purposefully didn’t have an official ‘aisle.’ We wanted everyone to feel like they were apart of the same family.

As for décor, we mixed in white folding chairs with a deep green sofa and dark leather chairs to create a very homey feel. Where Chantal and Brooks were standing, we placed multiple cow ride rugs, which made for the perfect spot for them to say their ‘I Dos’!

The final piece of the ceremony was an ‘in memory’ dedication next to the fire place. Chantal and Brooks collected wood pieces from a relative’s ranch and placed photos of deceased family members who were not able to be there that day. We then accented it with candles and greenery in order for it to truly be a statement area throughout the entire wedding.

The Reception:

The ceremony took place in the Ivy Ballroom at The Surf Hotel and was a perfect mix of modern elegance with a rustic flare.

In designing this space, our goal was to create a warm and cozy feeling for guests filled with lots of little details and unexpected textures. We created two different and complementary table designs; one with a deep emerald green velvet linen and wishbone chairs and the other with an ivory and gold linen, accented with modern black chairs. The combination of the two created a gorgeous gender neutral, mountain chateau feel in the reception space.

Looking at the place settings, we kept these consistent on all tables and used black napkins, modern black and gold flatware and accented with a simple white menu with a leather pace cards attached. As for floral, we kept the floral very classic, in all white and greens with accents of anemones to pull in the hint of black into the arrangements. Lastly, we accented the gorgeous floral arrangements wooden candles holders, black candles and faux fur in order to complete the look.

Lastly, when it came to the cake, Chantal chose to half black / half white cake set on a wood and black cake stand and accented with coinciding floral. It was truly the perfect addition to the day!

Planner's Favorite Part:

I have to admit that one of my favorite details, was the leather hide seating chart! It added the perfect element of a natural texture and adding the true mountain chateau vibe; not to mention the custom calligraphy turned out wonderfully!
