11 Things To Do After You Get Engaged

1. Celebrate With Your Fiancé – Before picking up the phone and calling all of your closest friends and family members, relish the moment with your new fiancé! Get a bottle of champagne, enjoy each other’s company and celebrate with just the two of you. I promise – that will be a moment you will forever cherish.

2. Call Your Relatives (Even the ones you never really talk to) – Once you are done celebrating with your fiancé, call all your family and friends. Notice I said CALL? Not text, not Facebook, CALL. None of your family or friends wants to feel like they were the last to know about the engagement by seeing your status update. Make them feel loved by picking up the phone and calling them.

3. Instagram Ring Selfie – Once all your family and friends know about the engagement, now is the time to take and post that Instagram ring selfie!

4. Get Your Ring Sized – As much as your fiancé loves you, chances are he didn’t purchase the right size ring. Do yourself a favor and get it re-sized to perfectly fit your ring finger.

5. Get Your Ring Insured – Engagement rings are expensive and can easily fall down the drain or be stolen. Purchasing ring insurance will ensure that you are covered if anything ever does happen to your precious new engagement ring.

6. Set A Budget | Start a Wedding Savings Account – Believe it or not, weddings are expensive. Even a small wedding will most likely cost more than you expect. Sitting down with your fiancé and realistically setting a budget for your wedding is going to make life easier down the road. Also, by creating a savings account specifically for your wedding, you are going to be less stressed financially as your wedding sneaks up on you.

7. Get A Wedding “Planner” – By this I don’t mean an actual wedding planner. I mean a self-guided “How To Plan Your Wedding” book. This will help you get started with the planning process, and will get the wheels turning as to whether you can/want to plan your wedding alone, or if you would rather bring on a professional to make the process fun and easy!

8. Set A Date – Even it’s not THE date – From the moment you get engaged people are going to begin asking you when the big day is. Having a tentative date set is going to answer all those questions, and is also going to make the planning process easier as you begin reaching out to venues.

9. Think Big Picture – Start daydreaming about your wedding and honeymoon! What are you picturing? A big wedding? A destination wedding? An outdoor wedding? Those big picture visions are going to help guide you in the right direction when it comes to searching for venues.

10. Ask Your Parents (and his) For Their Ideal Guest List -  And begin drafting your own guest list – You unfortunately cannot begin looking for a venue until you have a rough idea of the guest list. Will you be looking for a space for 50 or 300? You may also be surprised by the number of people your parents are expecting you to invite!

11. Relax and Have Fun – There are going to be times when your engagement gets stressful, and I encourage you to step back and enjoy the process. Remember that you only get engaged once! Don’t allow yourself to get so wrapped up in beginning to plan your wedding that you don’t take any time to just enjoy the engagement.
