Today is an exciting day because I am sharing my very own trash the dress session from Hawaii!! As some of you may know, Jeremy and I got engaged under the Hanakai'ai Falls while backpacking the Kalalau Trail on the Napali Coast of Kauai, Hawaii. It was such an amazing experience, and I had NO idea he was going to pop the question. Not only were we on a backpacking trip (so carrying an engagement ring seemed risky), but we had to swim out to the waterfall where he proposed! It was the best kind of surprise I could have ever hoped for, and ever since that moment waterfalls have had a special place in my heart. :)
When it came to planning our wedding, we initially wanted to find a location where we could tie the knot under a waterfall. (It seems only fitting, right?!) Well, since we weren't able to make that happen, we decided to do a trash the dress session in a waterfall instead. Our unbelievable photographers, Shayna and Peter, from Mr. and Mrs. Wedding Duo were onboard with our crazy idea of driving across the Big Island of Hawaii to the Inn at Kulaniapia Falls for an adventurous trash the dress session.
When it came to picking this location for our trash the dress, we didn't just pick it as random. We wanted to find a spot where we were able to go into the water, and wanted the falls to look similar to the falls where we got engaged. Lucky for us, one of the hotels we were staying at during our honeymoon had it's own private (and gorgeous!) falls. The best part was that it was safe to swim out towards them. Score!
I can't even begin to tell you how much fun we had during our trash the dress session! It was such an enjoyable and carefree day, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! Scroll on down to see all the details of the day. I hope you enjoy it!
