Getting engaged is such an exciting time! It’s confirmation that you have found your partner in crime and your soul mate, and it’s the beginning of the next chapter in your life. It’s a time of overwhelming joy and unmatchable excitement; that is, until you realize you have to tackle the huge undertaking of planning a wedding! Initially, planning a wedding sounds like a blast. After all, who doesn’t want to wear a gorgeous dress and hang out with all their closest family and friends?! It’s not until you start diving into all the nitty-gritty detail, that it becomes overwhelming, and begins to overshadow the excitement of being engaged. As a wedding planner, I don’t want you to stress! In order to prevent that from happening, I am sharing 6 insider tips on streamlining the wedding planning processes and having fun along the way.
1. BRAINSTORM AN INITIAL WEDDING VISION
Before you dive into finding the perfect venue, sit down and envision your ideal wedding. Is it a formal affair for 200 guests with chandeliers lining the ceiling? Is it a casual, budget friendly, backyard wedding for 35 of your closest family and friends? Or is it a mid-sized wedding at a non-traditional, industrial location? Zoning in on the overall vision, budget and estimated guest count is going to narrow down the venue options and make diving into the process much easier. Booking a venue that fits this vision will also save you money down the road.
2. FIND A GOOD CHECKLIST + STAY FOCUSED
I highly recommend finding a detailed wedding planning checklist, and using it guide you through the process. Don’t focus so much on the timeframe of exactly when everything needs to be done (because it will stress you out!), instead, use it as a checklist to ensure nothing is being overlooked. I suggest sitting down at the beginning of every week and selecting 1-2 tasks from the list to focus on. During that week, ONLY work on those tasks. It will prevent you from getting too overwhelmed, and you will be amazed how quickly you get things checked off the list. (Below is our mini | compact timeline!)
3. SET PRIORITIES
I encourage you to sit down with you fiancé and really discuss what is most important to you. In order to do this, make a list of all the vendors you need to bring in for the wedding and rate them. (1 being the most important) This will help dictate where you should be spending the most money and what order you should be booking your vendors in. For example, if awesome stationery is a huge priority, start looking into it sooner rather than later. Researching stationery may come later on a standard “checklist,” but if it is one of your priorities, get it done first and allocate a larger budget for it. (On a side note, if you love save the dates and invites, checking out Paperless Post is A MUST!! Their selection is ah-mazing and they can create custom designs that are out of this world!)
4. DELEGATE
Planning a wedding is a huge undertaking and incorporates SO many details. Don’t be afraid to delegate a few tasks to your fiancé, your mother, and your bridal party. (especially as you get closer to the big day!) They will be excited to help, and I promise, you will be glad you asked for the help.
5. BE DECISIVE
As you are researching vendors and brainstorming ideas, it is going to be difficult to make final decisions; after all, you want to be sure everything is perfect! I encourage you to not overthink every detail. If an idea or vendor feels right, go with it and don’t second-guess yourself! You will save yourself hours of stressing and, I promise, it will all come together beautifully.
6. ENJOY
Because there are so many details involved in planning a wedding and because, as a bride, you want everything to be perfect, there will be times when you forget to enjoy it. Regardless of which flowers you choose, or what food is provided, or who shows up, you will still be married at the end of the day, and that is the whole point behind the wedding. Have fun planning your wedding, but don’t loose sight of what the day is truly about. If you keep this in mind, you will be more apt to enjoy the entire process. Test it out – I dare you!
Cheers!
