Selecting A Location For Your Engagement Photos

You are offically engaged and have a big, sparkling ring on your left hand that you can't wait to show off! Now it's time to go take some engagement photos, document this monumental time, and share the wonderful news! Now where in the world do you go take those engagement photos?! After browsing through pinterest, you see so many awesome photos of couples at the beach, at a winery, in coffee shop, the list goes on and on. Well today we are going to give you a few tips in selecting that perfect location.

1. Personalize It - One of the biggest mistakes couples make when selecting a location, is just choosing somewhere that is "pretty." I encourage you to think outside the box, and think about your relationship. Where did you first meet? Where was your first date? Are you regulars at a local brewery or coffee shop? What's on your bucket list? Answering questions like these, and selecting a location that is meaningful to your relationship is going to go much further than picking a random location.

2. Foral vs Informal - Before choosing the location of your engagement shoot, consider what you intend to use the photos for. If you plan on creating save the dates for your wedding, then I would suggest choosing a location that matches the formality of your wedding. For example, if you are planning on have a very formal black tie wedding, then sending out save the dates with you and your fiance in shorts and t-shirts at a horse ranch wouldn't set the tone correctly. On the contrary, having you are your fiance dressed in a suite and formal gown, sitting in a horse drawn carriage would properly set the tone for a formal soirre!

3. Experience - You should get more out of your engagement photos than just photos. Be sure to select a location where you are comforatble and where you will have fun! It should be a fun day, and an experience that you will enjoy! For example, if you are gluten free, chances are you aren't going to have a whole lot of fun at a brewery - even if it is does have cool decor and is your fiances favorite spot. Or, if you are always freezing, then choosing to shoot at the beach during a winter sunset probably isn't going to be the most fun experience for you either. Be sure to pick somewhere that is going to be enjoyable! I promise it will show in the photos!

Hopefully that helps to get the wheels turning and your mind racing with fun spots for your engagement shoot!

Cheers!
