Finding The Perfect Wedding Shoes

Updated: Apr 25, 2020

Oh wedding shoes, how we love you! Fancy shoes have the ability to both complete a look and make you feel gorgeous. They can add so much detail and, if you ask me, are seriously a work of art. Now, before you run out and buy your dream shoes, I want you to keep a few things in mind. Below are our 7 tips to both finding the perfect wedding shoes and ensuring your feet are comfortable on your wedding day.

Buy Your Wedding Dress First

As tempting as it may be to buy your dream wedding shoes as soon as you get engaged, don't do it! You want to be sure your shoes are going to compliment your dress and it is much easier to find shoes to match a dress than it is to find a dress that matches your shoes!

Prioritize Comfort

Yes, this may be hard to keep in mind when you fall in love with a pair of shoes that look like a piece of art. But here's the thing, you will be wearing these for a minimum of a few hours on your wedding day and you want to be sure your feet aren't in pain all day. Can you imagine standing at your ceremony and counting the minutes until it's over because your feet hurt? Trust me when I say the pain is not worth it on your wedding day.

Consider The Venue

By this, I don't mean focus on the formality or style of your venue. Instead, I want you to think about the terrain at your venue. Will you be walking on uneven surfaces? Or walking up and down lots of stairs? Or will you be walking on lots of grass? You want to be sure that you are able to comfortably walk around at your venue in your chosen shoes.

Buy your shoes PRIOR to you first dress fitting

You are going to want to bring your shoes to all of your dress fittings, including the very first one. This is going to allow your seamstress to hem your dress to the right length. If you don't bring your shoes and you just 'guestimat,' chances are your dress is not going to fall to the right place. (Meaning, you may end up tripping over your dress all day..)

Take Time To Break Them In

Don't make the mistake of wearing your shoes for the first time on your wedding day. This is merely asking for trouble....and really sore feet! Like I already mentioned, being in pain on your wedding day is not going to be the best memory. Now, in order to break in your shoes, simple wear them around your house in 30 minute stretches. My favorite recommendation is to get in the habit of wearing them every time you make dinner!

Have A Backup Pair

Even if you do everything you are supposed to and have really comfortable shoes that you break in prior to your wedding day, there will still come a time when you are sick of wearing them. For this reason, I always recommend getting a cute pair of flats that you can change into during the reception. Not only will your feet be happier, but it will be much easier for you to dance the night away!

Don't Forget Detail Photos

If you are like most brides and spend countless hours picking out the perfect pair of shoes, you want to remember them! Be sure your photographer gets some pretty photos you can look back at for years to come.
